The Porto Sketchbook - celebrating my love for a city

The Sketchbook! It's time to sign up for the 2014 Sketchbook Project tour. Last year I sent a sketchbook that celebrates my favorite Portuguese city - Porto! Enjoy! My favorite Portuguese city  Porto is a city to love Porto is the second largest city in Portugal. It's one of the oldest European centers and it was classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996. The Latin name, Portus Cale, has been referred to as the origin of the name Portugal. It's located along the mouth of the Douro river in northern Portugal. I lived in several Portuguese cities and Oporto is my all-time favorite. Just got an email from Sketchbook Project 2013 !!! Dear Belinha Fernandes, Thanks for sending in your project for SBP 2013! We just wanted to let you know that your project has now been cataloged in the Brooklyn Art Library! It can be found on the shelves with a call number of 193.96-7. If you've already chosen to get your project digitized, you'll receive another email once it's been scanned into the Digital Library. Please stay tuned for more details about the project. The Sketchbook Project 2013 - Sketchbook sent!

You may remember me telling you I joined this project called The Sketchbook Project 2013 . I wrote about it here and here. Yesterday I finally sent my sketchbook to Brooklyn Library. Yeah, it's in the mail!! This was the first time I joined the Sketchbook Project. Next year I want to do it again if I can! Making it made me want to create more with pencils and inks and give the computer some rest for a while. I knew I wanted to draw about my favorite Portuguese city. I did not plan it much. I just took a look at some photos I made and sketched from it. It meant a lot because I have a great passion for Oporto and it feels wonderful to know that I can share it with some people far away in the USA. I don't consider myself an artist but I like the fact I can express myself with words but also visually. I enjoyed creating the drawings but did not have much time to do it. 2013 Sketchbook project - just got my sketchbook!

Do you remember this? I wrote about The 2013 Sketchbook project back in November. It's a creative project. I explained it here . So, as I wrote, I signed up so for the project. In three weeks, yesterday, I got the package containing a custom-designed Sketchbook Project sketchbook with a barcode on it and detailed instructions about the project. Now, I can start filling the white pages!! In January I'll send the sketchbook back to them and it will be archived in the Brooklyn Art Library and exhibited to the public! My idea is to share my sketch with you! What do you think?

The 2013 Sketchbook project! I just signed up so, for now, I have to wait maybe a month they mail me a package containing a custom-designed Sketchbook Project sketchbook with a barcode on it, the chosen theme, and detailed instructions about the project. Then I will fill it out and send the sketchbook back to them. It will be archived in the Brooklyn Art Library and exhibited to the public! The Sketchbook Project is a worldwide creative experience. Together, thousands of regular people from around the world will form a traveling library of handmade books. This project is for anyone who craves an outlet for that undeniable creative bug. Anyone — from anywhere — regardless of his or her creative background can and should participate. The Sketchbook Project is not just a project for sketchbooks.
