Lovely Necklace Collection you can buy online

View other Russian Necklaces at Zazzle.com

Hello, again my friends, Zazzlers and occasional visitors!

I was here thinking to myself what gift would I like to get from Zazzle store for Valentine's Day and after giving it some thought my choice would be a necklace, what else? It's a pretty and feminine gift that we can keep close to our hearts. These necklaces arrive in a special black felt bag that is perfect for gifting.

I picked a lot of pendants that make a good gift for Valentine's Day as you will see in this post. I am particularly fond of Vintage images and paintings from painters like Klimt or Klee. I also like the kaleidoscope designs or mandalas, I think they work so well in necklaces. Flowers and the color red are also timeless and ideal for the theme of love and passion!

I picked lots of different types of necklaces from Zazzle talented artists. Some are really pretty. Usually, I don't get gifts on Valentine's Day...it's not a tradition among Portuguese. At least not of my age. But today I am sending this link to my guy! Maybe I get lucky this time! I will let you know!

Where to find t-shirt design inspiration? Part 2/2

Hello Zazzlers and friends!

Here's another post about sites where you can find t-shirts, lots of t-shirts. Sharing the second part of this big list I researched. It might be useful. You can find some inspiration for your designs in it, or you can get to study some different t-shirt business models if you're planning to open a t-shirt store. Or find stores that will do the printing for you. Or maybe you can find that t-shirt you were just looking for.

Today's list has t-shirt sites that also run t-shirt design competitions. Why not give it a try? I am not earning anything from these links but I also added a list of affiliate programs you can join so you can make money selling t-shirts even if you don't care to design it. When checking a t-shirt site look if they have an affiliate program. Many do have one.

After all this work I don't know if I am more or less motivated to design t-shirts for Zazzle than I was when I started! One thing I am sure: T-shirts seem to be a terrific business for many. Some of these sites are running for many years. So...have a look yourself.

The Independente - A luxury hostel in Lisbon

Just read about this special hostel called The Independente at The Guardian. It's in Lisbon, our capital. It has a different concept in hospitality. You can check photos of The Independente here. And there's a blog here. The Guardian asked Kash Bhattacharya, who is currently backpacking around Europe and blogging, to find some really nice luxury hostels in Europe and, surprise, surprise, this one made to the list!

"90 beds spread across 11 dorms with its impressive floor to ceiling heights as well as the abundant size that all rooms boast offer guests the opportunity to enjoy a private lounge within every room where they can relax and share stories and experiences with fellow travelers in unique and inviting comfort. Four very special suites, with private balconies which overlook the Tagus River, where guests can enjoy their breakfast free of charge, compliment the accommodation options offered and will surely embellish your stay with us in one of the world’s oldest cities."

Another big wave for Garrett McNamara!

There's a lot of excitment going on about Nazaré beach and its big waves and Hawaiian surfer Garrett McNamara. You have to be amazed by this guy's courage. Just watch this TheGuardian video. But to have a deeper insight about Nazaré and the all scenario, take some time and watch the video Surf no Canhão de Nazaré above.

Garrett McNamara surfed another big wave in Nazaré (Portugal)!

I was just going to sleep when I saw this amazing photo and had to blog about it. It seems that Garrett McNamara has surfed a monster wave in Nazaré beach AGAIN and may have beaten his previous world record. This man is just incredible. Garrett McNamara has already surfed what is considered to be the biggest wave ever in Praia do Norte, Nazaré, Portugal, during the ZON North Canyon Project 2011. Now McNamara returned to Nazaré and it may have surfed another huge one on 28th January, yesterday. In this photo that was captured by portuguese photographer called Tó Mané, Garrett McNamara is seen riding a big, big wave, maybe a 100-foot wave. Garrett McNamara traveled from Hawaii and hit the water with Kealii Mamala,Kamaki Worthington and Hugo Vau, as support team on the jet ski. This is McNamara blog, keep checking it for further news.

Read about previous McNamara record here!

Where to find the best t-shirts online? Part 1/2

Hello Zazzlers and friends!

I hardly have any t-shirts for sale on my Zazzle stores. I am afraid of t-shirts, I confess! I keep comfortable when creating for paper. But textile creation is hard on me. As I see it, doing graphic design and doing graphic design specifically for t-shirt printing are two totally different things. I'm used to paper. I'm used to creating logos and handouts and postcards and posters. I feel comfortable with paper but not with textile design. It's something that people will wear. It's scary! But every now and then I think about creating some really cool t-shirts. I did some research into the existing t-shirt fashion online market. There's a huge t-shirt online market! After a close look at hundreds of tees, its trends, designs, colors, I don't know if there is anything else to write or draw or paint about on a t-shirt! So, here's the first post about some t-shirts blogs and sites I found. Let's take a look!

The site aims to showcase the best creative talent in the t-shirt world, whilst having a bit of fun in the process with more mainstream pop culture designs as well.

Teehunter - It hunts down the best t-shirt designs out there, showcasing brands and artists and growing the tee culture on the web. A community of tee enthusiasts and t-shirt lovers.

Software to enhance your creativity

Hello Zazzlers and friends.

Today I bring you a list of programs you can use to pursue your creative endeavors. Some are free to use, others will have some limitations but still, you can download it and give it a try. I'll be updating this list as I can.

1. Adobe Creative Suite - This is a very good software even if an old version. You can use it to make your first contact with Adobe. You'll find Photoshop, Illustrator, and all the other programs like InDesign.

2. Inkscape - Draw freely - Inkscape 0.48.4 is out. Open Source vector graphics editor, with capabilities similar to Illustrator, CorelDraw, or Xara X, using the W3C standard Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) file format. Inkscape supports many advanced SVG features (markers, clones, alpha blending, etc.) and great care is taken in designing a streamlined interface. It is very easy to edit nodes, perform complex path operations, trace bitmaps and much more. Inkscape is used for creating vector drawings, such as laying out a poster or creating a fancy logo, whereas bitmap editors are for working on raster images, such as touching up a photograph. In many projects, you would need to use both Inkscape and a bitmap editor (such as GIMP or Photoshop.)

Inkscape provides source tarballs for Linux (binary packages are offered by the distributor), packages for Windows XP/Vista/7 (fully self-contained installer), and Mac OS X (DMG). Inkscape is successfully used on FreeBSD and other Unix-like operating systems. Note that Windows 98/ME and 2000 is no longer supported.

3. GIMP - GNU Image Manipulating Program - GIMP is an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed program for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition, and image authoring. It has many capabilities. It can be used as a simple paint program, an expert quality photo retouching program, an online batch processing system, a mass production image renderer, an image format converter, etc. As an example, for digital painting, Gimp has painting tools including Brush, Pencil, Airbrush, Clone, etc, sub-pixel sampling for all paint tools for high-quality anti-aliasing,, extremely powerful gradient editor and blend tool and it supports custom brushes and patterns.

Supported Platforms

GNU/Linux (i386, PPC)
Microsoft Windows (XP, Vista)
Mac OS X
Sun OpenSolaris
FreeBSD

4. Free Serif Software - For Design Graphics you choose Draw Plus Starter Edition. It's an accurate vector drawing program, with a realistic brush, pen, and pencil tools, also has text on a path. It has blend modes for advanced artistic effects and it's compatible with graphics tablets.

DrawPlus Starter Edition System Specs
Pentium PC with mouse
Microsoft Windows® 8, 7, Vista, or XP (32-bit) operating system
512MB RAM
250MB free hard disk space
1024 x 600 monitor resolution

5.JTL Ultimate Paint - It's a full-featured 32-bit Windows graphics program for image creation, viewing, and manipulation. t has a flexible brush handling method which encourages creative drawing. You can also retouch and enhance photos using a comprehensive set of built-in tools and plug-ins. Features include resizing, rotating, flood filling, text operations and a lot more.

6. Paint.Net - Paint.NET is free image and photo editing software for computers that run Windows. It features an intuitive and innovative user interface with support for layers, unlimited undo special effects and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools. An active and growing online community provides friendly help, tutorials, and plugins. Paint.NET includes simple tools for drawing shapes, including an easy-to-use curve tool for drawing splines or Bezier curves. The Gradient tool, new for 3.0, has been cited as an innovative improvement over similar tools provided by other software. The facilities for creating and working with selections is powerful, yet still simple enough to be picked up quickly. Other powerful tools include the Magic Wand for selecting regions of similar color and the Clone Stamp for copying or erasing portions of an image. There is also a simple text editor, a tool for zooming, and a Recolor tool.

7. Blender - Blender is the free open source 3D content creation suite. It's used for creating animated films, visual effects, interactive 3D applications or video games. Download it here and check all its potential at this gallery.

8. Terragen 2 - The free version may only be used for non-commercial purposes but I am listing it also because I find it pretty amazing. You can create the most realistic images possible without taking a photograph. This software is a powerful solution for rendering and animating realistic natural environments. Create entire worlds from your imagination, or import real world terrain datasets and use Terragen 2 to create the most realistic visualizations possible. You control the weather, landscape, rivers, lakes and oceans, suns, moons and stars. With Terragen 2 you have complete control over the shader networks used for terrains, textures, micropolygon displacements, clouds and object distributions. You can reorganize the planetary shading pipeline to suit your goals. Place grass and trees wherever you want, as well as other objects in OBJ format that you can model in third-party software. Check the potential of Terragen at the gallery, here.

9. Sculptris - Sculptris is an elegant, powerful and yet easy to use 3D sculpting software, allowing the artist in you to simply focus on creating amazing 3D artwork. Gone are the technical and often tedious constraints typically associated with digital art.
If you're new to the world of digital sculpting, Sculptris is the ideal ground on which to get started. If on the other hand you're experienced in CG, what you will find in Sculptris is a blazingly fast way to realize your concepts. It's intuitive, fun and user-friendly, so you can focus as an artist on pure creativity. Check the gallery here and be amazed by Sculptris. (This one I wanna try!!)

10. Sumopaint - It features many of the same tools, but Sumo Paint is geared towards illustration, where other software such as Photoshop is more suited for heavy image editing. The app has the web's most versatile collection of image editing features blurring the line between desktop applications like Photoshop or Gimp. Watch it in action on this video.

Romantic Valentine's Greeting Cards you can buy online!

This design is one of the most popular Portuguese folk-art patterns. Today we can find it in clothes, shoes, objects. The sweetheart’s favors or Sweethearts´ handkerchiefs, - also known as Love handkerchiefs -are a Portuguese tradition. It dates may be from the 17th century. They have a symbolic function - the conquest of a man's love.

These squares are made of linen or cotton and have embroidered messages dedicated by a young woman to the man she is in love with. She then sent it to the man and, if her love was returned, he would use the handkerchief in public. In case he didn´t, the romantic dream was over. Often these handkerchiefs have language mistakes and rhyme. Designs include blackberry vines, bouquets, flowers, hearts, and keys to open hearts, butterflies, doves, religious symbols, etc. Linen is embroidered in cross stitch, in running and stem stitches.

This design is ideal for romantic persons or any romantic celebration or sweet moment, for example, Valentine’s Day.

MOBA - Art too bad to be ignored!

I am not kidding. I find this Museum amusing and interesting. It's about creativity, it's about people who challenged themselves and expressed what they saw or feel through the means of color. It's not fine art, that is for sure. But who hasn't seen art in a gallery and wonder why someone called art that particular piece? Nowadays it's sometimes difficult to have a clear perception of what is art and what's not! So, why shouldn't these masterpieces be treasured?

MOBA isn't a Portuguese Museum but sometimes I also blog about things other than Portuguese. The Museum Of Bad Art (MOBA) is the world's only museum dedicated to the collection, preservation, exhibition, and celebration of bad art in all its forms.

The Museum Of Bad Art (MOBA) is a community-based, private institution dedicated to the collection, preservation, exhibition, and celebration of bad art in all its forms and in all its glory. MOBA was founded in the fall of 1993 and presented its first show in March 1994. The response was overwhelming. Since then, MOBA's collection and ambitions have grown exponentially. Initially, MOBA was housed in the basement of a private home in Boston. This meager exhibition space limited the museum to be a regional cultural resource for the New England area.
