No more Squidoo for me
Hello friends and Zazzlers!
This is not a blogging comeback, yet. It's only a rather emotional outburst. I am moving my Squidoo content to this blog. I also deleted Squidoo links I had on the left side of this blog. It's over. I will keep my account there because there's interesting stuff to read at the site and I might visit and comment. But adios baby, no more Squidoo for me.
Now, you may want to know what happened... or not. If you are familiar with Squidoo you might have some of your lenses flagged or even blocked too by now. I was never an avid Squidoo writer. I created just a dozen lenses and spent months without logging to the platform. At this moment I am glad I did not write more! Most of them are blocked!
At first, I did not like Squidoo much. When I was more into it they started to make strict rules about how to create a lens. One I hated was the idea of putting an Amazon module at the top of the lens! Squidoo is worried about spun, duplicated content and poor English writing or content among other things. I think Google has unfriended Squidoo and so the captain is taking desperate measures to save the ship!
I have to struggle with English a lot as it's not my mother language. I know sometimes I am lazy and I use easy words and lazy sentences construction! So I must accept that maybe I am not just good enough at writing English to be at Squidoo. Many people earn money from Squidoo. My first poor content lenses made a couple of bucks in the first years. I gave it to charity. Lately, nada! It's a bit ironic that when I need the revenue nothing comes from that effort...! Squidoo pages demand a lot of effort and time from me and really I don't feel rewarded in any way. No traffic, no interaction, no money. And most of all it takes lots of time to set one lens correctly, I mean, the way Squidoo wants. I made an effort to improve my lenses but it did not work. So, the only way is out!
Thinking with a cold and objective mind I must ask myself what's Squidoo advantage when I can create a blog or two or three and do the exact same thing I do at Squidoo and in a much more comfortable way. Of course, there are SEO rules and if we want to perform well we must keep those rules in mind. But we're building something that in the long run we feel much more of our own than lenses ever will. Blogger adapted to Google too but Blogger changing policies never drove me crazy like Squidoo's. And there's also Wordpress that's a more professional platform to try. So, why Squidoo? No more Squidoo for me. And what about you?

Handmade gorgeous cards from Sabivo Designs
My friends, I am sorry but for the past two months, I was unable to update this blog. I will return to regular blogging in September. For now, this is just a quick post I promised to make. I am writing about SABIVO Design that is a boutique publisher based in Leicester, specializing in design and production of unique hand-painted greeting cards.
I was fortunate to be the lucky winner of Sabivo's Giveaway last month of July. I was so surprised when I got Sabivo's email telling me the good news! I am not a "giveaway freak"! I have this idea that I never get lucky. So most of the times I don't enter giveaways. This time was an exception, I GOT LUCKY, yeah!! I have always loved her artwork. When I found Sabivo's on Facebook I was immediately a fan and so I invite you to visit her page too.
I was so glad when I got Sabivo's Design package. I was not aware that I would get a collection, that's right, a small collection of six gorgeous cards. One card I can send to my father on Father's Day. I have 3 for Birthday occasions, one for Christmas and one for my boyfriend. I don't know if I will send it all, I want to keep one or two for me!!
They are perfect. I like the square format and the way Sabivo matches envelopes' color with color painting details. The textured white board is great too. Sabivo cards have small stones, jewels, ribbons, and trinkets. These small details make it really special. Each card is individually hand painted in watercolor and lovingly hand-finished with embellishment or subtly with glitter. Each card is packaged in a clear cellophane bag.
These handmade cards designed and made in England by Sabina. Who is Sabina? As she wrote herself on Sabivo's site, Sabina is a self-taught artist with a passion for design for as long as she remembers. Together with Ivo who runs the website design and administration Sabivo Design's team helps us sending our words of love and joy on special occasions!
Where can you take a look at Sabivo's products?
Try the Facebook photo album
More SABIVO designs can be found on Gallery and Hand Painted Greeting Cards pages.
SABIVO Design offers also additional products, such as iPhone Cases, T-shirts, Art Prints, etc, at Zazu Online Zazzle Store. Click these products I selected and take a look!
Thank you, Sabina, for a wonderful Giveaway and best luck to you card business!

Portuguese music to celebrate the arrival of the month of May!
Emmy Curl was born in 1990 in the northeast of Portugal. This girl grew up with a lot of interests in arts like music, painting, play, and photography. She began to produce by her self all her songs in her father's studio when she was only fifteen. To celebrate the first day of May I picked her version of Maio Maduro Maio. This song it's a cover. She made a great cover in my opinion.
The author of this song is the great Zeca Afonso. It belongs to the Cantigas Do Maio which is the fifth album by this Portuguese protest singer. This is, maybe, his best album. Some of his most famous songs are in it, one of them becoming a revolutionary anthem - it's Grândola Vila Morena, the song picked to be the code used by the Armed Forces Movement to start what would become the Carnation Revolution.
Zeca was an influential folk and political musician and he used his music and poetry as a tool of resistance against Oliveira Salazar dictatorial regime. He was persecuted by the Fascist Police and saw many of his concerts canceled. He was arrested and jailed for 2 months in the political prison of Caxias. After the Carnation Revolution took place in 1974 he continued to compose political folk songs. He continues to listen all over the world and he remains an inspiration for the young artists like Emmy Curl.
May1st is a bank holiday in Portugal. It's International Workers' Day. This celebration was harshly repressed during the fascist dictatorship regime.

Visit Jean-Philippe's site about Portuguese music!
A couple of weeks ago a young student contacted me and showed his project, a website he created to promote Portuguese music. Be an ambassador of your musical heritage by promoting your homeland music, Jean-Philippe wrote in his site. His full name is Jean-Philippe Costa and he lives in Washington. His parents are Portuguese but he was born in France. Nevertheless, he chose Portuguese music, not French music for his assignment. How cool!
Please do me a little favor. Take a moment of your time and visit Jean-Philippe's site. It's called Your music your culture and it will introduce you to Portuguese music on the fly. He collected a significant sample of video links. You can also learn about Portuguese music evolution. Jean-Philippe covered the origin of fado, the state of music before the outburst of the revolutionary April 1974 (the "Carnation Revolution") and what genres flourished around the country after that event.
If you're Portuguese and know our music well, you can give Jean-Philippe an extra helping hand! Go to his site and fill in the form available with your contribution.
You think the content of the site is not enough? You are right!
We need your contribution
Fill in the required information, and leave as many suggestions as you like in the "comment" field. Your suggestions will thereafter be published on the website according to their content.
For your suggestions to be published in History and heritage
- Provide accurate facts (with dates, historical context)
- Any other idea that you deem relevant
For your suggestions to be published in Portuguese Artist:
- Provide the name of the Band/artist
- Provide the musical genre it belongs to
- Optional the name of your favorite songs/album
I was curious about Jean-Philippe I asked Jean about himself, his life and projects for the future. He was kind enough to answer!
1. Tell us your name, your age, where you live...
My name is Jean-Philippe Costa Mota or Jean-Philippe Antunes Mota... it depends if I use my Portuguese or French passport. This being said I am Portuguese “de alma e coração”. I am currently about to turn 25 next month, I was born and raised in France, my parents are Portuguese and Portuguese was actually the 1st language I learned.
Like I usually like to say: My education as an individual is Portuguese since I have been raised by a Portuguese family, and my education as a citizen is French since I have been also “raised” by French institutions. I am finishing my Master of Science in Business in Washington, DC and will move to Brazil to start my career.
2. Why did you go to the USA?
I decided to come to the US to conclude my master program for a semester.
3. Do you enjoy living there?
I enjoy life in Washington DC. When I first arrived I was afraid to miss the strong European culture, its history, literacy and of course its gastronomy. Hopefully, I discovered here a wonderful country, very diversified. DC is a fun city to live at my age. But I must confess I miss the food back home lol.
4. What do Americans think about Portuguese people?
Americans have very few knowledge about Portuguese culture. It’s not a myth that Americans are very self-centered and they might not pay a lot of attention to other cultures. Plus the US is a big country, I believe they know more about Portuguese in areas like New Jersey. All in all, Portuguese have the reputation to be hard and serious workers, and this no one can’t take away from us!
5. Why did you pick Portuguese music as a theme for this school project?
I choose to do this project about Portuguese music because I know myself; I know that to go the extra mile and do a great job, I have to be passionate about what I am doing. I am passionate about our music. Besides, it gives me a sense justice, I feel like our artists should be recognized on an international level. I had the same feeling last year when I was in Brazil, and it was even more frustrating. I am proud to be an ambassador of our music thanks to this website.
6. What Portuguese music is available in the USA?
The cruel truth is ... none.
7. Besides music, what are your main interests?
I like listening to music, music makes me alive, lately, I have been teaching myself guitar and harmonica and it feels awesome. Aside from that, I love martial arts which I have been practicing for 9 years and of course, I love going out and enjoying what life can offer to a young person eager to discover the world. Traveling is certainly my biggest passions.
8. In what country do you imagine living in the future?
I am only in the US for a short period of time. My parents are currently in France, so I would guess my home is there. Nevertheless one day I do intend to go live a couple of years in Portugal. At the end of the day, I believe it is where I belong and it’s just a matter of time before I undertake to spend time in Portugal.

The Bible, a new TV series with a Portuguese actor in it!
The Bible is a new TV series. The role of Jesus Christ is a portrait by Diogo Morgado, and, yes, he's a Portuguese actor. He's one of our top actors with a career spanning over 16 years in tv, film and stage productions. Now he's portraying the powerful role of Jesus Christ in the epic 10-hour mini-series "The Bible" produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey and premiering March 3, 2013, on The History Channel. Diogo's film credits include a performance in the title role of Portuguese dictator Antonio De Oliveira Salazar in the hit feature film "A Vida Privada De Salazar". Diogo also has lead roles in two independent films in the U.S.A: "Red Butterfly" and "Born to Race: Fast Track".
Salazar's Private Life by Jorge Queiroga (2009), with Diogo Morgado, Soraya Chaves, Margarida Carpinteiro and others. Salazar invented the Estado Novo. This regime started as a result of a nationalist military coup against the Portuguese 1st Republic in 1926. Two years later, Salazar who was in the Catholic party, was called to make part of the military cabinet and to put public finances in order. Later he was appointed the prime minister. In 1968 he had an accident from which he never recovered. His regime survived him! The Estado Novo regime collapsed with a revolutionary military coup in 1974, four years after his death.
A vida privada de Salazar is a Portuguese Tv series based on true facts. It starts when he was a young man spending time at a seminary. Then he moves to Coimbra's university where he studies law and becomes a teacher. Over forty years he rules Portugal as a dictator. In the meantime, he did have a turbulent affective life but it seems that at the time that was all a big secret. This TV series deals mostly with Salazar's passion for women. Salazar never married and dedicated his life to his country, or at least that was what he believed and made the people believe...
Donate to Wikipedia!
Hello friends and Zazzlers!
Today when I accessed Wikipedia I found the fundraising yellow banner. I donated a few euros to Wikipedia because I think it's money well spent. In fact, how many times a year have I turned to Wikipedia for information? After I made my donation I got this email and I am sharing it in order to encourage you to donate to Wikipedia too!
Dear Maria,
Thank you for donating to the Wikimedia Foundation. You are wonderful!
It's easy to ignore our fundraising banners, and I'm really glad you didn't. This is how Wikipedia pays its bills --- people like you giving us money, so we can keep the site freely available for everyone around the world.
People tell me they donate to Wikipedia because they find it useful, and they trust it because even though it's not perfect, they know it's written for them. Wikipedia isn't meant to advance somebody's PR agenda or push a particular ideology, or to persuade you to believe something that's not true. We aim to tell the truth, and we can do that because of you. The fact that you fund the site keeps us independent and able to deliver what you need and want from Wikipedia. Exactly as it should be.
You should know: your donation isn't just covering your own costs. The average donor is paying for his or her own use of Wikipedia, plus the costs of hundreds of other people. Your donation keeps Wikipedia available for an ambitious kid in Bangalore who's teaching herself computer programming. A middle-aged homemaker in Vienna who's just been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. A novelist researching 1850s Britain. A 10-year-old in San Salvador who's just discovered Carl Sagan.
On behalf of those people, and the half-billion other readers of Wikipedia and its sister sites and projects, I thank you for joining us in our effort to make the sum of all human knowledge available for everyone. Your donation makes the world a better place. Thank you.
Most people don't know Wikipedia's run by a non-profit. Please consider sharing this e-mail with a few of your friends to encourage them to donate too. And if you're interested, you should try adding some new information to Wikipedia. If you see a typo or other small mistake, please fix it, and if you find something missing, please add it. There are resources that can help you get started. Don't worry about making a mistake: that's normal when people first start editing and if it happens, other Wikipedians will be happy to fix it for you.
I appreciate your trust in us, and I promise you we'll use your money well.
Thanks,Sue

Protests in Portugal revive Revolutionary Song!

The song Grândola, Vila Morena first became a symbol of protest during the 1974 revolution that brought democracy to Portugal. Carlos Bahia went to the United States in 1977 and now lives in Danbury, CT. He plays “Grandola, Vila Morena” on his radio program Radio Familia on WFAR in Danbury, Connecticut.

Had to post about this demonstration. These are the covers of our most popular newspapers. Thousands of demonstrators were on the streets in more than 20 cities in Portugal on Saturday to protest against government-imposed austerity measures. "Screw the troika, we want our lives back."- The troika is a reference to the European Commission, the International Monetary Fund and the European Central Bank, the lenders behind the country's financial bailout. Many protesters were singing a 40-year-old song called Grândola Vila Morena. If you want to listen a short explanation about it listen to the above Mp3. It's a song that's linked to 1974 popular uprising known as the Carnation Revolution.

Grumpy Cat is a SHE!
Hello friends and Zazzlers!
Grumpy Cat is all over the internet maybe since December. And there's an official merchandise store at Zazzle that sells Grumpy Cat's goodies!! But it was only today that I learned that Grumpy Cat is a "she" and that her real name is Tardar Sauce! Well, not much to say about this cat. She's a world star! She's a viral success over the internet. She's irresistible! She's a real deal, not the work of a Photoshop artist. It seems like she was born angry and that's why we love her! Meowww!

Marco Rodrigues - more Portuguese music for you!
This is a happy fado from Marco Rodrigues. The CD will be out next week so this is quite fresh yet! I will not translate the lyrics for you this time but I am sure you will love the voice and the cheerful guitars. I can tell you that it's kind of a warning the poet makes about women. They fall for those men who don't like them, they run away from those who care! So the best thing is just not giving women that much attention and in that way, they will come running for you! He's telling the heart that's just the way it is, it's women' nature so the heart can't fight it! It's a sweet poem written by a poet born in the XIV century. He studied Law and unfortunately he drowned in River Tejo when he was 58 years old. Enjoy the music!
Coração, olha o que queres
Tão tirana e desigual
Sustentam sempre a vontade,
Que a quem lhes quer de verdade
Confessam que querem mal;
Se amor para elas não vale,
Coração, olha o que queres:
Que mulheres, são mulheres...
Coração, olha o que queres:
Que mulheres, são mulheres...
Coração, olha o que queres:
Que mulheres, são mulheres...
Se alguma tem afeição
Há-de ser a quem lhe nega,
Porque nenhuma se entrega
Fora desta condição;
Não lhe queiras, coração,
E senão, olha o que queres:
Que mulheres, são mulheres...
Coração, olha o que queres:
Que mulheres, são mulheres...
Coração, olha o que queres:
Que mulheres, são mulheres...
São tais, que é melhor partido
Para obrigá-las e tê-las,
Ir sempre fugindo delas,
Que andar por elas perdido;
E pois o tens conhecido,
Coração, que mais lhe queres?
Que, em fim, todas as mulheres!
Coração, olha o que queres:
Que mulheres, são mulheres...
Coração, olha o que queres:
Que mulheres, são mulheres...

My old Wacom is simple and cool
My Wacom Graphire4 has customizable express keys, tablet wheel and a pressure-sensitive eraser and cordless battery-free pen.
Hello friends and Zazzlers!
Last December I bought a new computer and I am still updating the software to it. I gave this buy a lot of thought. I did not want to spend much, I do not have a lot of money these days! But I wanted a good machine. Finally, I decided and bought ASUS and picked Windows 7 because I have very old software and I was afraid it would not install on Windows 8. My main concern was Freehand because I have lots and lots of works created with Freehand. And I still use it often even if no updates to FreeHand have been made for over years. Adobe has no plans to initiate development to support it but I like Freehand because I can use it even with my eyes shut! Windows 7 worked just fine. I just needed to download new drivers for my scanner and Wacom tablet. My scanner is old but I wasn't interested in buying a new one. The Epson scanner was installed nicely and the one thing left was my Wacom Graphire4. Yesterday it also installed nicely, yeah!
I have seen some Zazzlers asking questions about this kind of digital tablets so I am writing a few lines about it. I have this Wacom tablet maybe for eight years now. Wacom is the best brand but probably there are many others in the market that can perform as well. This is not a professional model but is good enough. When I bought it I was just an amateur and this was perfect for a beginner. Even now, that I have more experience, it still works good enough for me. Measuring about 280mm x 260mm, with an active area of about 210mm x 150mm, and a height of 18mm, the tablet is quite manageable and is lightweight. It has a scroll wheel at the top of the tablet and two buttons on the side to move back and forward. It has four switches on the back that allow the plastic cover to be removed. You must always work with the plastic cover on. Removing it you can place photos or other images underneath and customize how it looks. The pen has a rubber grip that has two side switches buttons; the upper switch is double click, the other one , I guess not. I stopped thinking how it works! The one on the top it's an eraser. The tablet just connects to the computer via USB cable. It's plug and play. Don't forget that you need to have some kind of graphic software installed in your computer in order to use it. Essentially, though, a tablet it's just a mouse. You can draw, doodle, take notes and edit images. I just use my tablet when I want to paint with Photoshop. You can also drop the pen and use it as a touchpad for your computer, an alternative to your mouse. A mouse does not have pressure. The tablet can detect pressure, allowing users of Photoshop or other graphic program to control the thickness or solidity of brush stroke. If you want to learn more about it you can take a look at the manual.
The seagull I am showing was one of my first paintings in Photoshop. I was learning and at the time I had no tablet. It was made with the mouse. With tablet is a lot easier!

Cristiano Ronaldo is cover of spanish GQ magazine
Cristiano Ronaldo is a famous world soccer player and he is portuguese as many of you know. Usually I don't write about football. This time I will not do it either! But a friend just sent me this photo and caption to tease me! I am allways saying how good Ronaldo looks on photos as a model. She disagrees. Once more I have to say that in my humble opinion he looks great and I also like the clothes he's wearing. I like the color red and the mix between serious and sport wear. In fact I don't know why men can't wear more happy colors. It's just a question of fashion and culture. In Africa men and women of all ages dress in colorful clothes and I like that!
He's the cover of the spanish magazine GQ for March and inside there's an interview where he says: Criticism is part of our business, we have to live with it. What hurts me the most is criticism for issues outside the pitch. I do not mind when it comes to my game, because again, I am the first to realize when I shake. " That was well put. People dislike the kid for so long and for many reasons even if he's doing great things. Nobody's perfect. He's doing what he does best, playing, and winning. He's giving money to several causes. He helps his family. But still, he gets lots of criticism for lots of reasons. Perhaps that comes with the fact of being just another public figure or because people are a little jealous of his looks, the women, the money, the fame. He's kind of a silly guy, I agree, but I stopped judging him for what he does outside the football stadium a long time ago...Who cares? Just play that ball, Ronaldo!

Hi my dear friends and Zazzlers!
Yesterday an Irish lady friend of mine got engaged! I am really happy for her. It seems the guy asked her to marry him 3 times. Finally, she accepted! I am happy for her. And today I just got an email from a friend of mine who has decided to get married. Love is in the air, I believe, LOL! She and her longtime companion went out for a special Valentine's dinner to celebrate such a special decision yesterday. The overall number of married couples has declined in Portugal over the years and people get married later. Maybe because other kinds of living arrangements are now more socially acceptable or maybe because girls and boys that go to college want to have a career before they settle down. Maria João and Mário have been living together for 10 years. Now they finally decided to tie the knot! It's always a great joy to get this kind of news! They want a nice and small ceremony just for the family and close friends followed by a dinner party. I got invited, yeah! It will be in the summer so I'll have plenty of time to buy myself a new pretty dress, LOL! But, most important, I was invited to create the wedding ceremony invitations! I was so pleased! It's the second time a friend asks me to do it! Wow!
Her email made me think of custom wedding invitations from Zazzle right away. I never paid much attention to it and I don't have any at my store to sell. So I decided to take a close look mainly for inspiration!
